Hi Remy,
Thank you for your interest in my K20 Elise, let me try and respond all your questions as I do understand that buying a car which is a considerable distance away, deserves close attention.
The car was purchased from James Merrett, the owner of JGM Sports (
http://www.jgmsports.co.uk/) in the U.K., a well-reputated Lotus specialist. I have bought several cars from James over the years, and I have always been very happy with the vehicles he has provided. This car is no exception, as it proved to be just as good as I had imagined.
One of the things that led me to buy this Elise was the fact that James handed me over information of all the build process, which you can see by accessing this link:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1641510 You can even have access to the original add of the car in this link, where you can find a lot of useful information about it:
http://www.jgmsports.co.uk/cars-for-sal ... ata-exedy/ The reason for trying to sell the car in France is due to a higher demand for these cars in your country than in Spain, and the fact that so far I have been offered other vehicles in part-exchange and I am interested in cash only.
The swap was carried out by the previous owner, in the U.K., at the end of 2016. A complete Stark Automotive kit was used, as you will be able to see in the above mentioned link. This kit included the optional high flow catalytic converter (which passes emmissions at the Spanish MOT without problems) and the latest version of the Stark gear linkage kit (which has a much improved feel over the previous version, which I had in a K20 swapped S2).
The engine is said to have had 75.000 miles at the time of the swap, but unfortunately I haven't got any documents to prove this. I do have a folder full of receipts about most other things, though, and these will be handed over with the car.
In terms of the engine, the previous owner put on a new timing chain and tensioner kit, as well as a new water pump and fuel pump.
Apart from that, the car benefits from the following:
- Uprated aluminium radiator
- Hondata KPro Version 4 ECU
- Baffled sump
- Brand new Exedy uprated clutch (with a Supercharger conversion in mind)
- Wavetrac limited slip differential
- Stainless steel Stark Automotive headers, with the optional high-flow cat and stainless steel repackable silencer (sounds amazing, but not too loud)
The car had been resprayed before the previous owner bought it, mainly because the paint was looking a bit dull in some areas and because of stone chips. I carried out and HPI check on the vehicle before purchase and it showed a clear record, with no damage ever recorded.
The car currently has a Bilstein Elise S2 suspension with a recent alignment and fast-road geometry set-up. Brand new Advan tires are also present. The shock absorbers show their age as the yellow paint is flaking, but so far they have proven to work correctly. Slotted disc brakes with uprated pads as well as stainless lines make sure the car has good braking abilities. All of these items are in great shape.
During its time in Spain, the car has only had one owner and it has received brand new LHD headlights (the old RHD items will also be given with the car). Apart from that, the brake calipers were removed, cleaned and painted in matt black and the wiring loom in the front of the car has been updated.
Reason for sale? I have owned a total of 7 Lotus Elise in recent years and time has come to move on. I have tried almost every different variant, both in S1 and in S2 form, and this one has proven to be the quickest and most fun, but the fact that I am married and with two small kids is putting serious pressure on me, and I am considering purchasing a 997 cabrio to keep the wife happy
The aluminium chassis is obviously in perfect shape, with no sign of any damage. The HPI check I conducted showed no Cat C or Cat D damage to the car, but you can also check with James (JGM Sports), as he is a Lotus specialist and a reputable proffessional who had the car for some time before I purchased it from him. He will be able to confirm with you that the car was in perfect shape.
Overall, I think the car is a great buy and it provides amazing performance for the money, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed if you decide to come and see it. Do remember it is a 1999 model, and the driver's seat is showing its age. The driver's side bolster has a little damage, but that's really the only thing you need to keep in mind. Absolutely everything works as it should and the fact that it passed the strict Spanish MOT is just another proof that the car is in excellent shape. I fitted a new battery about a month ago, so the car needs nothing at the moment.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Pepe.
