D'origine?
"For any sports car in the world, a record-breaking Nurburgring lap is one of the most important deciding factors of its credibility. However, there is another place in the world where records are just as important – the Isle of Man. Located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland, within the British Isles, the Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency.
Subaru announced today that the long-standing road-car lap record for the Isle of Man TT circuit has been topped in a production-spec Subaru WRX STI sedan by former British Rally Champion Mark Higgins.
Higgins drove the 37.8 mile course in 19:56.7, which gives his run an average speed of 113 mph. The top speed achieved during the run was 162 mph."
"Even more remarkable, the STI was pretty much bone stock—a roll cage and race harnesses were added, and the suspension adjusted to better deal with the rough road surfaces, but the engine and brakes went unmodified"
"The production-spec WRX STI used came with a turbocharged 2.5 liter unit with 221 kW (300 PS / 296 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). But some modifications were made to the car, mainly for safety reasons.
Those were an MSA-spec T45 integrated roll cage, TRS race harness and a Lifeline fire extinguisher system. A loud exhaust system also helped warn spectators of the upcoming car."
"The WRX STI in question was modified with safety equipment, including a roll cage, racing brake pads and a street-legal set of sticky Pirelli tires. The Subaru probably also benefited a bit from the removal of the cars catalytic converters so it could be as loud as possible to warn spectators of the on-coming car."
