BMW 1 Series M Coupe confirmed
It’s the smallest M ever built. But BMW has now confirmed that the 1 Series M Coupe is on the way. In a video simultaneously released on the firm’s official YouTube channel and M-power.com, the CEO of M Division, Dr Kay Segler, confirmed that the car is coming.
Shown being put through its paces on the private Ascari Race Resort circuit in Spain, the new M car is likely to be powered by the 335bhp turbo straight six found in the Z4 sDrive35is. This will drive the rear wheels through the trademark M differential and the suspension and brakes will be uprated to cope.
The move also ends speculation as to the name of the 1-Series-based M, as M1 is already associated with the supercar of the 1970s. Instead, the newcomer uses the convention applied to the X5 and X6 SUVs, where the M follows the car’s name.
